I hadnt realized this was PressTV’s doc until around 38mins, but by then
there were more questions than answers. Then I realized who the producer
was and it became clear why the sparsity on details specifically on the
persia side. The theocratic ‘democracy’ (oxymoron in itself) that made
this documentary has just one take away for you, greece and athens =
failure because of secularism which produces an ‘ephemeral democracy’, and
rome = corrupt military state using christianity as its weapon. while
ancient persia ‘listened’ to the higher power and had a stronger democracy
and will of the people because yes (*cough* Khamenei is wise and
intelligent *cough*)… Disappointed mostly because the act of omission
was pretty glaring. Oh yes and be scared of democracy, even if it happened,
its still bad.
Isn’t a theocratic dictatorship the same thing as having the “needing the
approval of the gods in order to rule”? And as a governmental system, this
will no doubt be abused by the more opportunistic rulers to gain power by
convincing people of it. To chastise western society for it’s political
corruption while praising Persia for it’s theocracy and ignoring it’s
corruption, is somewhat dishonest to say the least. This documentary is a
great disappointment to me. It is guilty of the very same fallacy of
“leaving out important details” that it lays at the feet of western
philosophers. (like the internal turmoil of having a rapid succession of
kings in Persia or actual comparisons to the quality of life people have in
these western democracies verses that of the great Persia) Indeed, if the
motives of western philosophy and government for having these omissions is
to promote power and slavery (a very substantiated claim that I would love
to see backed up here), I truly wonder what the motives are of this work in
making it’s omissions.
