Annual Texas Veggie Fair Organizers Announce Record-Breaking Attendance Numbers, 2014 Date in Dallas and Call for Partners – Vegan Personality Fully Raw Kristina to Speak

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) February 06, 2014

Annual Texas Veggie Fair Organizers Announce Record-Breaking Attendance Numbers, 2014 Date and Call for Partners

Vendors Invited to Enjoy Early-Bird Rates through March 1

It is official. In spite of sprouting up in the middle of cattle country, Texas Veggie Fair (TVF) has taken root in Dallas with more than 7,000 flocking to last fall's event and hundreds of thousands interacting online. Riding the wave, organizers for TVF2014 have announced the fifth annual event will be Sunday, October 19, 2014 from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Dallas' Reverchon Park.

With planning well underway for the 2014 event, organizers have announced an early-bird vendor discount of 20 percent off (2013 rates) until March 1. Those interested in sponsorship, food and product vending, exhibiting, or raffle/goodie bag giveaway items can visit the site and fill out a partner inquiry here.

Centered on plant-based cuisine, healthy green living, and animal welfare, Texas Veggie Fair features a full performance schedule, more than 100 vegan food and product vendors, a local beer garden, chef demos, a "Veggie Village" kids' and arts area, and speakers from across the country including the popular raw vegan personality Fully Raw Kristina and Joshua Katcher, fashion game changer and editor of The Discerning Brute. Last year's keynote speaker and performer was Erykah Badu. This is the third year the family and dog-friendly event will be at Reverchon Park and plans for enhanced parking options are underway.

Texas Veggie Fair is projected to grow exponentially along with the region's booming population of those interested in plant-based lifestyle options.

According to event founder and DallasVegan.com blogger James Scott, expect an even larger TVF2014. "Texas Veggie Fair has quadrupled in size since the first one in 2010 - we get bigger crowds each year. Through DallasVegan.com and other events I host throughout the year, I see first-hand the groundswell of people and businesses in DFW and surrounding areas interested in a plant-based diet. For one day each October, Texas Veggie Fair brings everyone together - the attendees, sponsors, vendors, and speakers - to learn, to eat, and to celebrate the vegan lifestyle.”

JAMES SCOTT, Founder and Co-producer

James Scott grew up in Grapevine, Texas but has called Dallas his home for the last 10 years. In 2009 he founded DallasVegan.com and went on to organize the first ever Texas Veggie Fair in 2010. James' "day job" is in IT and enjoys playing ice hockey and running marathons in his spare time.

STEPHANIE M. CASEY, Co-producer

A Dallas native, Stephanie left Texas for 14 years of media work on both coasts. A few documentaries with Bill Moyers, many motion pictures with folks such as Garry Marshall and M. Night Shyamalan, a couple of released records and tours later, it was back to Dallas. She created and operates Frugal Foodie Dallas and does freelance creative production + strategy. This is her second year producing Texas Veggie Fair.

Manhattan College History Professor Julie Leininger Pycior Publishes Book on Mexican-American Activism

RIVERDALE, N.Y., (PRWEB) July 17, 2014

Historian Julie Leininger Pycior, Ph.D., professor of history at Manhattan College, recently published her newest book, "Democratic Renewal and the Mutual Aid Legacy of US Mexicans." Pycior’s latest book traces the historic mutual aid organizing of Mexican-Americans, from its early origins after the Mexican-American War to its present day impact on important policy issues such as immigration and money in politics.

“Latinos, most of whom are Mexican, have moved from the periphery of the national discussion to its center, with much of the public uncertain about this development, but they can take heart from this saga,” Pycior noted. “This overlooked chapter of U.S. history also constitutes a report on cutting-edge efforts to revitalize our democracy today.”

Professor of sociology at the CUNY Graduate Center, Ruth Milkman, author of "L.A. Story: Immigrant Workers and the Future of the US Labor Movement," praised the book: “Pycior’s analysis of mutualista organizing among Mexicans in the United States, past and present, sheds new light on one of the most important social movements of our time.”

Award-winning author of "LBJ and Mexican Americans: the Paradox of Power" (1997) and a historical adviser to public television, Pycior has spent much of her professional career researching Mexican-Americans, immigration and the 1960s. "LBJ and Mexican Americans: the Paradox of Power" analyzes the complex relations between President Lyndon B. Johnson and Mexican-Americans. In 1997, the book was recognized with the Texas Historical Commission T.R. Fehrenbach Award, which honors worthy accomplishments and exemplary leadership in the preservation of Texas’ heritage.

A member of the editorial board for the Latinos in the U.S. monograph series of Michigan State University Press, Pycior is a historical consultant to public television and blogs for the "Huffington Post." She is currently working on a book project entitled "Bearing Witness: Dorothy Day, Thomas Merton and the Question of Belief in a Time of Crisis." In addition, Pycior is writing an article on the Great Society at high tide, a vivid account of the historic moment in 1965 when a record-number of laws were passed, with publication timed for the 50th anniversary in 2015.

She also edited the 2004 best-selling book by television journalist Bill Moyers, "Moyers on America: A Journalist and His Times."

“Finely-honed … marvelous,” says Moyers of "Democratic Renewal," calling it “a book whose derided, dismissed, and suppressed subjects rise vividly from the shrouded past to offer our troubled democracy its only hope: "Solo Juntos Lo Lograremos" — ‘We Will Only Achieve Things Together.’”

Pycior received her B.A. with honors from Michigan State University and her M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame.

Americans Are Just Beginning To Unleash Their Superpower!

March 2, 2025 By Ted Leave a Comment

American Consumer Spending Makes Up 70% of the GDP. This is an American Superpower that has been largely untapped until now. Democracy Needs Your Help

I use to believe that democracy needed two parties since the exchange of ideas made our Democracy stronger. The Republican party is no longer the party of Lincoln.
